As an experienced teacher, I’m well acquainted with the pressures and challenges faced by teenagers as they start to think about their futures whilst also trying to come to grips with their own identities. Add social media and the demands of the UK exam system into the mix and you can have a perfect storm of stress and anxiety. For parents it can be particularly difficult to know how to help your child, especially since this is the period in their lives when they are most likely to be resistant to parental advice. Sometimes, you just need a mentor figure to step in and offer some extra help, a ‘neutral adult’ who stands outside the role of ‘parent’ or ‘teacher’ but who has the life experience, training and expertise to offer your child appropriate advice and support.
That’s where I come in.
Fourteen years of teaching in the English educational system have given me a wealth of experience and pastoral training to call upon, not to mention an ‘insider’s understanding’ of the academic and social pressures your child is facing. My training in NLP, Timeline Therapy™ and hypnosis has equipped me with additional tools to help your child identify and enact the changes they need to make, to not just keep their head above the water, but to truly flourish.

Regular videos calls (weekly or fortnightly) to help your child manage their workload, stay motivated and organise their time. Sessions will always be tailored to each student, and might include:
Goal setting and positive accountability.
Support in finding a healthy balance between work and relaxation.
Refining existing strategies – or creating news ones – for more effective working.
Development of revision skills and exam technique.
These techniques help your child to work with their unconscious minds to make the changes they need, employing the careful use of language and a variety of active imagination exercises.
They are particularly effective at overcoming limiting beliefs, managing stress, boosting motivation and improving self-confidence, and can effect significant positive change in the course of just a few sessions.
For more information on these techniques, please see the NLP information page.
One size does not fit all when it comes to revision techniques, and all too often students simply copy what their more academically successful friends are doing in the hopes that it will work for them too. However, everyone’s brain learns in a slightly different way and understanding which study techniques will suit you best is half the revision battle won.
I will use my years of experience as a teacher, tutor and coach to help your child find a process that plays to their own strengths. If exam-related nerves are an issue, there are a number of NLP techniques that can help too. For more information, please see the NLP information page.
I have always enjoyed teaching languages, and continue to offer private tuition up to KS5 level in French and Spanish. With extensive knowledge of the GCSE, IGCSE, A-level and IB courses, I can offer specialised support and exam-specific practice to give your child the best chances of success.
If your child is academically very able and is not finding their school courses suitably challenging, this can lead to its own set of motivational problems.
I can help by encouraging and guiding them in carrying out their own independent research projects. This involves training in the sorts of research and critical thinking skills which are highly regarded by universities and increasingly valued by employers in a world that is too quickly becoming dependent on ‘AI Overviews.’
Far more importantly, independent research can be an inspiring and empowering way for students to take the initiative in their own learning and follow their own academic interests, especially if these fall outside the remit of remit of the UK exam syllabuses.
A wealth of experience and pastoral training from fourteen years in the English educational system.
19 years’ combined experience as a modern languages teacher (French, Spanish and English as a foreign language) helping my students build their confidence for those nerve-wracking oral exams, and improve their revision skills and exam technique for the huge variety of different assessments demanded by MFL qualifications.
Ten years as a Sixth Form tutor, helping students bridge the gap between GCSE and A-level/IB, plan their next steps in life, navigate the university admissions process and develop their interview skills.
Five years co-ordinating my school’s ‘stretch and challenge’ programme, encouraging students of all academic abilities to indulge their love of learning and their academic interests.
Experience supervising IB extended essays, and running EPQ and HPQ programmes.
